North Aurora to offer Citizens Police Academy

Program to forge partnership between citizens and police


NORTH AURORA – To give participants a better understanding of how the North Aurora Police Department operates, it will offer a Citizens Police Academy from Feb. 21 to April 25.

The course will be an informative overview of the fundamentals of police work and will be taught by North Aurora police officers representing various areas of expertise. Course topics will cover criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, crime-scene processing, criminal law, use of force and driving under the influence. In addition, participants will be able to experience simulated traffic stops and simulated firearms training exercises.

The 10 classes will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. The program is free to those who live, work or own property in North Aurora. Applications may be picked up at the North Aurora Police Department lobby from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays or can be downloaded at northaurora.org/forms.aspx.
