Addiction center in St. Charles receives Community Foundation grant

Renz Addiction Counseling Center purchases drug-free treatment tool

ST. CHARLES – Renz Addiction Counseling Center was recently awarded $5,500 from the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley in support of capital purchases for the Center’s St. Charles treatment location, a news release stated.

The capital acquisitions include three Alpha-Stim devices, furniture for individual treatment and support groups and a cross-cut shredder.

New to the Fox Valley area is Renz Center’s Positive Waves Group using Alpha-Stim devices. Alpha-Stim is a drug-free treatment tool that helps individuals achieve substance use disorder recovery while reducing anxiety, depression, insomnia and pain, the release stated. When combined with traditional therapy, the Positive Waves Group further supports long-term recovery.

“The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley is a valued community partner,” said Jerry Skogmo, Renz Center’s executive director, in the release. “And we appreciate the support they place on addiction treatment and prevention education in the Fox River Valley. All three capital purchases directly benefit individuals in treatment. The cross-cut shredder adds an extra layer of security to eliminating confidential documents; soft, comfortable furniture offers more relaxed counseling sessions; and the Alpha-Stim devices will help ease anxiety, depression, insomnia, and help with pain management often associated with addiction."

Renz Center provides a continuum of care dedicated to the prevention, intervention and treatment of addictive behaviors related to alcohol, drugs and gambling. Services range from prevention programs for youth in the schools to outpatient treatment programs for adolescents and adults. Priority is given to pregnant women and women with dependent children, the release stated.
