Grayslake man charged with felony marijuana production

ELBURN –A Grayslake man was charged March 7 in connection with an illegal marijuana growing operation involving about 200 plants in an Elburn warehouse, officials announced in a news release.

The day before, while monitoring a warehouse at 250 W. Nebraska St., Elburn, for suspicious activity, a Kane County Sheriff’s deputy made contact with a man who was leaving the property, the release stated.

The man, later identified as Maskin Gokhman, 36, of the 1500 block of Meadow View Lane, Grayslake, was found to have two warrants for his arrest and he was taken into custody, the release stated. Gokhman was wanted on a warrant for driving under the influence in McHenry County and a warrant for violating an order of protection in Lake County, the release stated.

A search of Gokhman’s car with the assistance of a K-9 unit revealed about a half pound of suspected marijuana, the release stated.

Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Pat Gengler stated in an email that they got a search warrant for the warehouse the evening of March 6, secured the building overnight, and processed the warrant on the grow operation March 7. The Elburn Police Department provided assistance.

In addition to about 200 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, detectives also located about 68 pounds of harvested marijuana with a street value of about $150,000, the release stated.

Gokhman was charged with five felonies: manufacture or delivery of more than 5,000 grams of marijuana; felony possession of more than 5,000 grams of marijuana; production or possession of more than 200 marijuana plants; manufacture or delivery of more than 30 grams but fewer than 500 grams of marijuana; possession of more than 100 grams but not more than 500 grams of marijuana.

Gokhman's bail was set at $1 million.
