Batavia Books Between Bites to launch with 'The Rosie Project'

Guest speakers drive long-running series

The Batavia Public Library will host Books Between Bites each month.
The Batavia Public Library will host Books Between Bites each month.

BATAVIA – Books Between Bites will kick off its new season from noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 20 at Batavia Public Library, where Kathryn Hubbard will review "The Rosie Project," a romantic comedy by Graeme Simsion.

Hubbard is a retired elementary school teacher and self-described bibliophile, a news release stated. She will discuss the book about Don Tillman, a socially challenged professor of genetics, who has decided the time has come to find a wife. He develops a 16-page survey to filter out “the smokers, drinkers and late arrivers” who won’t fit into his highly efficient life. The quirky novel takes unexpected twists and turns.

The program is free and reservations are not required. Guests are welcome to bring their lunch or purchase food at the library's Chapters Coffeehouse & Café; one can call 630-406-8005 to arrange to pick up an order at the café in time for the program.

The book series was founded in Batavia in 1987 by the Rev. Lee Moorehead. Since his death in 2003, the program has been continued by his widow, Betty Moorehead, and his daughter, Becky Hoag, in partnership with George Scheetz and Stacey Peterson, both of the Batavia Public Library.

The series meets at the library at 10 S. Batavia Ave. each third Thursday from September through May. For more information about the series and its guest speakers, visit booksbetweenbites.com.
