Campton Twp. woman reports loss of more than $60k

Identity theft alleged in bank account drain

CAMPTON TOWNSHIP – A resident of the 5N900 block of East Sunset Views Drive, Campton Township, reported Jan. 2 that more than $60,000 was taken from her accounts, according to Kane County Sheriff’s reports.

The victim told deputies that she discovered that someone had changed the phone number and email on her Chase Bank savings and checking accounts and that $60,129.76 was taken out in 358 separate wire transfers, reports stated.

An unidentified person established control over her accounts, sending the funds to an overseas account on Dec. 26 and Dec. 27, reports stated.

She discovered the the loss and transactions on Dec. 28, reports stated.

The victim told deputies she had no idea how her account information was obtained nor by whom, reports stated.

She has since closed all her bank and credit card accounts and asked Chase Bank to file the incident as an identity theft, reports stated.

The victim told deputies she would be monitoring her identity and notifying credit bureaus, reports stated.
