ST. CHARLES – Residents and visitors to St. Charles can discover the city's culinary options while enjoying a discount on what they order during the upcoming St. Charles Restaurant Week.
From Feb. 25 to March 1, those who visit one of the 41 participating St. Charles restaurants will receive a 20 percent discount off their total bill when they present a special coupon – either printed or on their phone. This is the 9th year of the event, with the first one taking place in 2011.
"It was a way to bring people out in the winter months to come and enjoy what we have to offer in terms of restaurants," St. Charles Director of Community and Economic Development Rita Tungare said, in talking about the event's origins. "We've added to our mix of restaurants here in St. Charles and there's a lot more to offer and there's something for everyone. It's really a chance to bring people out and show what we have to offer in our community."
The week also gives people the chance to discover other businesses in the community, she said. The event has proven to be popular over the years.
"People have been asking me about it," Tungare said. "People have come to expect the event this time of year. We're very excited about it. There are many more communities doing a restaurant week now."
St. Charles was one of the first communities in the area to start offering the event. A list of the participating restaurants can be found at stcharlesil.gov/restaurant-week.
The discount card will be mailed to area residents and can also be downloaded from the city's website, stcharlesil.gov. In addition, the cards will be available at a number of locations around the city, including the St. Charles Municipal Building and the St. Charles Public Library.
A minimum purchase of $20 is required and the 20 percent discount excludes tax, tip, and alcohol. The offer is not valid with other promotions the restaurants may be running and is for dine-in only, no carry-out. Only one bill per table is eligible for the discount.
