Repair, replacement projects on tap for Kane roads, bridges

Projects part of 2040 Transportation Plan

GENEVA – Kane County’s asphalt roads – such as Fabyan Parkway, Randall, Kirk and LaFox roads – will be getting pavement-sealing work to extend their life.

At its April 9 meeting, the Kane County Board awarded the $132,500 contract to SKC Construction Inc., of West Chicago. The work is to be completed by Aug. 30.

That and other contracts were approved as part of a 2040 Transportation Plan and a five-year transportation improvement program.

A contract for $845,095 was approved for Corrective Asphalt Materials LLC of South Roxana to use rejuvenator on 12 roads.

These include portions of Fabyan Parkway Randall, Keslinger, Peck and Huntley roads and a cape seal treatment for Tyrell Road, with a completion date of Aug. 30, officials said.

A cape seal treatment is the application of a protective wearing surface to an existing pavement.

The board also approved an agreement for nearly $395,000 to Wight & Company of Chicago for phase three engineering to repair the bridge substructure of Fabyan Parkway over the Fox River. Improvements also include replacing bridge deck joints, repairing girders and replacing the existing bridge deck.

Another project is the acquisition of 3.046 acres of the highway right-of-way for the Bliss Road-Fabyan Parkway-Main Street intersection realignment for $38,770.

Another project is a $1.9 million contract to Curran Contracting Company of Crystal Lake for the reconstruction of the intersection of Randall Road at Weld Road and Route 20 in Elgin to build a new northbound to eastbound ramp.

The project is primarily funded with federal funds of $5 million, with an anticipated local share of $1.3 million. The project is expected to be completed by this fall.

The board also approved $2.1 million to replace the existing bridge of Silver Glen Road over Otter Creek. This project also has $1.7 million in federal funds and $635,600 from the county’s share.

The contract was awarded to D Construction Inc., of Coal City and is expected to be completed by Oct. 31, 2019.
