ST. CHARLES – The St. Charles Public Library is now an affiliate library for the free genealogical website FamilySearch, only one of a few hundred libraries in the country. Researchers can now view more than 350 million restricted records. It can only be accessed while in the library.

FamilySearch is the world’s largest genealogy organization, adding over 300 million free genealogical records and images online yearly from all over the world and manages the famous Family History Library in Salt Lake City. It has amassed billions of birth, marriage, death, census, land and court records from more than 130 countries to help researchers discover and make family connections.

The library’s genealogy collection, located in the Carnegie Business Room, features local resources including census microfilm from 1790, marriage records indices, Kane County cemetery guides and select local newspapers from 1900. There are also items available for checkout, including research guides for both beginners and seasoned researchers.

For more information, visit www.scpld.org or call 630-584-0076. The St. Charles Public Library is located at One South Sixth Avenue in St. Charles.
