AURORA – Runners and walkers of all abilities are invited to participate in the Barnyard Dash 5K at 8:30 a.m. April 27 at Blackberry Farm, sponsored by the Fox Valley Park District.
The USTAF-certified, chip-timed course features 14 age divisions for men and women racers ages 10 and up, and awards will be given out to the top overall men and women. The race fee is $29 until April 25 and then goes up to $34. On-site registration is available on April 27.
The course includes portions of the Virgil Gilman Trail, traversing historic Blackberry Farm and alternating between trails of asphalt and limestone screenings.
Refreshments are served at the finish line. Each participant age 21 and over also receives a complimentary beer, and ample amounts of bacon samples will be available for taste testings.
Families with younger children (ages 5 and up) are encouraged to sign up for the Pig Pen 1-Miler that begins at 9:45 a.m. Registration is $15 per entrant until April 25, when the fee increases to $20. All runners who register for the Barnyard Dash 5K may also participate in the Pig Pen run/walk for no additional charge.
“The Barnyard Dash is a wonderful race to be a part of,” stated Becky Harling, the Fox Valley Park District’s rental and events coordinator at Blackberry Farms, in a news release. “Each year this race attracts both beginner and advanced runners from all over the Chicagoland area. We also offer the Pig Pen 1-Miler race that is a great option for families and runners of all ages. Before or after the race, be sure the stop by to visit with our resident animals.”
