GENEVA – The Geneva District 304 school approved spending nearly $264,000 over three years to lease 835 electronic devices for fourth and sixth grade students at its meeting May 13.

After reviewing all proposals, staff recommended the lease agreement with HPE Financial Services, the same lease provider of student devices purchased in 2016 and 2017, officials said.

The new devices will be delivered in June, the initial and annual payments of nearly $88,000 will be paid each July 1 and the company will include all costs associated with packing and shipping them at the end of the lease, officials said.

Also as part of its technology plan, the board approved nearly $31,000 to Midwest Computer Products to install cabling for digital video and audio connections for projectors at Geneva High School and Western Avenue Elementary School.

In other action, the board approved the purchase of two new 30-passenger and one used 32-passenger and one used 28-passenger school buses from Midwest Transit Equipment in Kankakee for $219,494.

The purchase is to replace four existing buses, which will be fully depreciated at the end of this school year. The district will no longer receive financial support from the state, officials said.

The school board also approved a gift of $10,000 from the Western Avenue PTO to purchase stage risers to be used for programs across the district.

The board approved $650 in gift cards from the Geneva Women’s Club for students in identified need in the district.

According to policy, a gift valued at more than $500 requires a board vote to accept.

Board member Leslie Juby praised the women’s club for the gift cards.

“It’s a really wonderful support that our families do,” Juby said.
