ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP – An arraignment hearing for a Sleepy Hollow man accused of home invasion, stabbing and sexual assault was postponed until Aug. 30.

Fabian J. Torres, 32, appeared briefly before Kane County Circuit Judge David Kliment July 11, clad in bright orange jail clothing and shackled at the waist and legs.

His attorney, Brenda Willett, asked that the arraignment be postponed because she had only just received discovery.

Torres, who is being held without bond, is charged with multiple counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, armed violence, attempted murder, home invasion, attempted aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery and aggravated restraint stemming from the April 8 incident.

Torres allegedly entered a Sleepy Hollow home through an unlocked front door before allegedly sexually assaulting and stabbing a 19-year-old woman. The woman’s 17-year-old brother, who came to his sister’s defense, also was stabbed and seriously injured. Both escaped the house and notified neighbors. After stabbing the teenagers, the suspect fled the home and went into a neighboring house where he allegedly threatened two other people with the knives.

Torres has a history of mental illness and previously served time in prison for throwing a Molotov cocktail into a crowded Algonquin grocery store in 2011.
