Batavia Community Band to perform in riverside park

BATAVIA – The Batavia Community Band will raise the baton on its third annual concert in the park from 3 to 4:15 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Peg Bond Center on the Batavia Riverwalk.

The concert will showcase music from many different genres, including marches, classics, movie medleys and patriotic songs, a news release stated.

In case of bad weather, the concert will be held in the council chambers at Batavia City Hall next to the downtown Riverwalk off Houston Street and Island Avenue.

“This concert will be enjoyable for young and old alike,” concert organizers stated in the release. “Bring a lawn chair, blanket or just sit on the grass for a quiet afternoon of beautiful music down by the river.”

The Batavia Community Band, under the umbrella of the city of Batavia, was organized in 2013 to play for city events and celebrations. The band has brought together many former musicians who live in Batavia and surrounding towns who wanted to pick up their instruments once again.

New members are always welcome. Membership in the band is voluntary; there is no ticket cost for concerts, nor is there a membership fee to play with the group. Donations are gladly accepted to help offset the cost of new music at any time during the year.

The director of the Batavia Community Band is John Heath, retired director of the Batavia High School band.
