ST. CHARLES – An Aurora woman faces criminal charges for allegedly lying to police in May about a crime that did not occur, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.

Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon has charged Zelpha K. Moore, 47, of the 2200 block of Sans Souci Drive, with disorderly conduct and obstructing justice, both Class 4 felonies.

The release states that Kane County prosecutors allege that on May 2, Moore falsely reported to a Kane County Sheriff’s deputy that an armed robbery had been committed at the U.S. Post Office in the 1N block of LaFox Road, LaFox.

A Kane County judge signed a warrant for Moore’s arrest on Oct. 4 and set her bail at $10,000. She was taken into custody on Oct. 7. Associate Judge Keith Johnson released Moore from custody on her promise to appear in court.

If convicted, Moore faces a sentence of probation or between 1 and 3 years’ in jail.
