Beyond the Bookshelves: The future looks bright

Construction continues on the new Geneva Public Library.
Construction continues on the new Geneva Public Library.

Exciting things are ahead for the Geneva Public Library as we transition to our new library at 227 S. Seventh St. We’re waiting for some final construction work to be completed to get the all-clear for our move, and we’ll update you as soon as we know more. Meanwhile, we’re packing, and although we don’t have a moving date yet, we’re planning ahead to ensure there is as little disruption to our community as possible.

Our move to the new library means we need to make temporary changes to some of our services. Changes include extending due dates until May for your convenience. You can enjoy your books and library materials for a longer period of time without worrying about them being overdue.

We expect to close for four weeks during the move.

Our online resources – eBooks, eMagazines, eAudiobooks, eMovies, and tools for research, school, and work – are available 24/7 at gpld.org. You also can use your GPLD library card at neighboring libraries.

We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your patience as we prepare for our move to the new library. We’re thrilled about all the services and resources we’ll be able to offer our community in the new facility.

Keep up with future announcements regarding the move at gpld.org. Contact us anytime at board@gpld.org.

The librarian recommends

Librarian Jessica Parker recommends “The Creature of the Pines” by Adam Gidwitz. “Elliot starts his first day at a new school nervous and ends by agreeing to join the secret Unicorn Rescue Society. In between he rescues a mythical creature, escapes a pair of greedy billionaire brothers and makes a new friend. Buckle in for a fast-paced fantasy adventure perfect for kids reading chapter books independently,” she says.

Paula Krapf is public relations and marketing manager for Geneva Public Library. The “Beyond the Bookshelves” column runs the third Thursday of each month. Feedback can be sent to editorial@kcchronicle.com.
