ST. CHARLES – Healing Gardens, a 2-acre expanse of woodland and perennial gardens on Stone Hill Farm off Dean Street in St. Charles, announced its last Sunday series date for the season will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 11.

The admission cost is $5 per person and $10 per family; call for discounted group rates. Admission is free for cancer survivors. Donations of time or money for upkeep are welcome. Healing Gardens is cultivated and hosted by Deborah Marqui, owner of Stone Hill Farm with husband Buzz Marqui.

The gardens are open to the public on set dates for the purpose of enjoying the natural wooded setting and gardens, a news release stated. Social distancing guidelines will be followed.

Deborah Marqui stated in the release that she is cancer-free from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma since 1996 and in remission from breast cancer since 2002, and finds great restoration of spirit in her gardens, adding she wants to share that with the public for their own rejuvenation.

“Come and immerse yourself in the transformation of nature into the rich colors of fall," she stated. "There is still time to pick a bouquet of flowers with numerous colors of mums, summer blooms and fall foliage."

For a small donation, visitors can pick their own bouquet of flowers to take home, with jars and scissors provided.

The Oct. 11 opening also will offer an optional outdoor "Yoga in the Garden" class from 1 to 2 p.m., taught by Nancy May; to register for the class, go to or call 815-319-3500.

Updated additional visit schedule

Due to the stress of the COVID-19 quarantine, Healing Gardens will continue to be made available for individuals or small groups to visit during the week and weekends up until the end of November. To make arrangements for a visit, people are asked to text (preferable) 630-740-2597 or call (leave a message). There is no charge, but a donation would be appreciated.

Visitors are welcome to read, nap, draw, meditate, journal, swing or simply do nothing.

Latest book

Healing Gardens also has announced the publication of "Healing Gardens: Where the Soul Is Tended," authored by Deborah Marqui. In her eBook, she takes the reader on a walking tour of the gardens.

"Let the magic and the beauty of the gardens unfold with every 'flip' of the page," the release stated. "You can begin reading without even leaving the comfort of your couch. It is a quick read and when, with a cleansing sigh, you finish the book, you can come out to the gardens to take your own tour and let the healing of nature surround you."

The book is available on Amazon for $2.99 and can be downloaded on one's preferred device.
