KANE COUNTY – Illinois public health officials on Thursday reported 144 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and two new deaths, both men in their 80s.
That is a decrease from the 280 new cases reported on Wednesday. The total number of cases in the county is now 14,702. The number of COVID-19 deaths in Kane County is 338.
The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen eight days of positivity increases – meeting one criteria for stricter mitigation measures – and four days of hospital admission increases. The region's positivity rate increased from 6.7% to 7.0%. Currently, 31% of medical/surgical beds are available and 46% of ICU beds.
Within this region, Kane County's rolling seven-day positivity average is now 8.1%. It has turned in back-to-back single-day positivity rates above 10%.
The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. The Illinois Department of Public Health will monitor if these indicators show an increase in COVID-19 disease burden with a simultaneous decrease in hospital capacity or if there are three consecutive days greater than or equal to 8% test positivity rate (7 day rolling).
These indicators can be used to determine whether additional community mitigation interventions are needed for a region to control the further spread of COVID-19.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 4,015 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 53 additional deaths Thursday.
The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate rose from 4.6% to 4.9%. The state received the results of 67,086 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday afternoon.
Illinois now has seen 331,620 total cases of the virus and 9,127 people have died.
