ST. CHARLES – The St. Charles Park District is looking for candidates to fill an empty seat on the board.

The vacancy was created after commissioner Mike Hoscheit relocated outside of the Park District as of Oct. 13. In accordance with the Illinois Park District Code, the successful candidate will be appointed by a majority of the remaining members of the board.

The person appointed to the seat will serve until a candidate is elected during the April 2021 consolidated election.

St. Charles Park District residents interested in applying to the vacant seat must submit a letter of interest and resume to board secretary Bob Carne. Materials can be dropped off at Baker Community Center; mailed to 101 S. Second Street, St. Charles, IL 60174; or emailed to

All letters/resumes must be received by 4 p.m. Nov. 2. Those interested in being appointed to fill a vacant commissioner’s seat must meet the following criteria: be a qualified elector of the St. Charles Park District, have resided in the Park District at least one year prior to election or appointment and not be in arrears in the payment of a tax or other indebtedness due to the park district or been convicted in any court of any infamous crime, bribery, perjury, or other felony.

The duties and role of a commissioner include:

• Attend scheduled board meetings on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month and other committee meetings as assigned.

• Formulate and approve policies for operation, control, and improvement and planning of parks, open land and leisure activities.

• Adopt comprehensive set of board policies to govern operation of the district.

• Adopt a park and recreation budget.

• Provide for the levy of taxes.

In addition, the Government Ethics Act requires a statement of economic interest be filed with the Kane County Clerk’s Office.
