Outdoor play can be a challenge when Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate, but the St. Charles Park District has the indoor spaces for all ages to play.

From a game of catch to a mini soccer match check out the St. Charles Park District’s Sportsplex. With two indoor turf fields there is plenty of room for action and all sorts of sports. Choose from the half or full field to allow enough room to move about and participate in unstructured play for various group sizes. Sportsplex Supervisor Cayla Greenfield said this option is a great way for people of all ages to get moving and enjoy time indoors.

The indoor fields are a perfect way for young children looking to burn off some steam when the weather turns cold and wet.

The Activity Zone is another great option, offering a smaller space for hourly rentals. Greenfield said the Activity Zone is ideal for a small group looking for space to meet indoors or even a young children’s age playgroup.

Open Play at the Sportsplex fields is $10 per person for one-hour rental or $5 for 30 minutes, an ideal option for a younger-age child, Greenfield said. The Activity Zone space is available for $5 per person. Advance reservations are required as areas are sanitized between users. To reserve space call the Sportsplex at 630-513-4388 or emailing Greenfield at cgreenfield@stcparks.org.

Due to Covid-19 precautions, participants must bring their own equipment, such as a soccer ball, football or even a hula hoop.

For another option grab a paddle and try pickleball. With simple rules and a game that combines the skills of tennis, badminton and ping-pong pickleball can be a great sport to enjoy indoors.

Bring a friend or join a match with open play available at Pottawatomie Community Center Mondays and Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. or at Haines Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The fee for a single visit is $3 per person or purchase an Open Gym Pass for $25 per person to enjoy 10 visits.

Pickleball is available to those ages 18 and older and can be a great way to enjoy some exercise and enjoy social time too as players offer friendly banter across the net.

Remember all participants are required to wear face masks inside the Sportsplex, including on the field.
